Can you use Klyvo Play for IPTV on Google TV? Not yet — and we would rather tell you straight away. The Klyvo Play TV app for Android TV and Google TV has been submitted to Google Play and is coming soon; Google TV devices such as the Google TV Streamer, and TVs that run Google TV, will use that same app. Until it goes live, the simplest way to watch your playlist on that TV is a supported device on another HDMI input — a Fire TV Stick or an Apple TV — or your phone, tablet or Windows PC. This guide explains where things stand, how setup will work on Google TV, and how to get ready.
Klyvo Play is a player. It provides no channel, film or series: you connect the service you already have and are authorized to use, with its Xtream login or its M3U link.
Klyvo Play on Google TV: current status
Google TV is Google's interface for TVs, built on Android TV. Apps for it come from Google Play, but only apps made for TV appear there — a phone app does not show up on a TV. Klyvo Play has a dedicated TV interface, already live on Apple TV and Fire TV, and its Google Play TV version is waiting for release. The devices page always shows the current status: Android TV — coming soon, Google TV — coming soon. When it is live, the download page will link to it.
Which Google TV devices are concerned?
- The Google TV Streamer, Google's own box that plugs into the TV over HDMI.
- Smart TVs running Google TV, sold by brands such as Sony, TCL, Hisense or Philips depending on the model and the country.
- Android TV boxes and TVs, which share the same Google Play for TV — including the Nvidia Shield and the Xiaomi Mi Box, covered in IPTV on Nvidia Shield and Xiaomi Mi Box.
Not sure what your TV runs? Look at its home screen: Google TV shows a “For you” tab with recommendations from several apps; Android TV shows rows of apps and channels. Samsung and LG TVs run their own systems (Tizen and webOS) — see IPTV on Samsung and LG smart TVs.
How IPTV setup will work on Google TV
The Google TV app is the same TV app as on Fire TV and Android TV, so the steps are already known:
- Open Google Play (the apps search on Google TV), search for Klyvo Play and install it.
- On first launch, note the two codes on the welcome screen: the address in MAC format and the Device Key.
- Either type your source with the remote under Connect your source (Xtream tab: Server URL, Username, Password; or M3U link tab), or attach your playlist to the two codes on the client portal from your phone.
- Select Connect, or simply wait: a playlist added on the portal appears on the TV on its own within minutes.
The codes are not your hardware's real MAC address; they belong to this installation of the app. The portal is explained in manage your playlists with your MAC address and Device Key, and the TV app in detail in IPTV player for Android TV and Google TV.
Why a real TV app matters for IPTV
An IPTV app on Google TV is something you use with a remote, from three metres away, often for hours. A phone interface stretched onto a TV quickly becomes tiring: small text, tiny buttons, a focus you lose. Klyvo Play's TV app was designed for that distance — large posters, a clear focus, a side menu — and its player picks sensible defaults for a TV, such as fitting the picture to the screen. Under the hood, the same VLC-based engine as on every platform plays MKV, HEVC/H.265, AVI and Dolby/DTS audio, and an adaptive buffer keeps live channels steady. That is why we are releasing a dedicated Google Play TV app rather than letting a phone app run on your television.
Get ready today, install in two minutes later
- Keep your details at hand: your Xtream login (server URL, username, password) or your M3U link, in a message you can copy from.
- Try the app first: install Klyvo Play on your phone or tablet and select Explore the demo to discover the interface with a royalty-free sample catalogue.
- Bookmark the portal: on launch day, you will only need the TV's two codes to attach your playlist from your phone.
- Check your network: if the TV is far from the router, plan an Ethernet cable now.
Using the Google TV remote
- The side menu gives access to Search, Home, Live, TV guide, Movies, Series, My list and Settings.
- OK opens, Back goes back one level; on the on-screen keyboard, confirming a field moves to the next one.
- In films and series, Play/Pause pauses and the arrows jump through the timeline.
- On remotes that have them, CH+ / CH− change channel and the number keys open a channel by its number.
What to use on your Google TV in the meantime
You do not have to wait to enjoy your playlist on the big screen. Klyvo Play works today on these devices:
- A Fire TV Stick on a free HDMI port of the same TV, from the Amazon Appstore — see the Fire TV guide.
- An Apple TV, from the App Store.
- A Windows PC connected over HDMI.
- Your phone or tablet (iPhone, iPad, Android), for a personal screen anywhere in the home.
Every new device gets the full app free for 10 days, and a playlist attached on the portal makes setup quick. When the Google TV app arrives, you install it like any other app and attach your playlist to its own codes.
We do not recommend installing apps from unknown sources on your Google TV to get around a missing store listing. Modified APK files are a real security risk — wait for the official Google Play release.
Tips for smooth IPTV on a Google TV device
- Prefer Ethernet or 5 GHz Wi-Fi. The Google TV Streamer has an Ethernet port; many TVs do too.
- Close apps you do not use: low-memory devices are the first to stutter. Klyvo Play switches to a lower-memory mode by itself on devices with less than 3 GB of memory.
- Run Settings → Connection & stream test to see whether your line handles 4K, HD or SD.
- If a Google TV or Android TV device feels slow in general, read slow IPTV on Android TV.
