IPTV for expats: organise your home country's channels

Living abroad and watching TV from home? How Klyvo Play puts your country's channels first, blends up to three countries and speaks your language.

IPTV for expats usually means one thing: finding the channels of your home country quickly, among the thousands a playlist may contain, while the rest of the family may want the channels of the country you live in. Klyvo Play is built for exactly that. You choose up to three countries, the app files every channel, film and series of your playlist under the right one, and you can use the app in English, French, Spanish or Arabic. This guide explains how to set it up — with a service you are authorized to use where you live.

Klyvo Play is a player. It provides no channel, film or series, and it does not suggest any provider: you connect a service you already have and are authorized to use, with an Xtream login or an M3U link. The countries shown are those your own source contains.

A word on rights before you start

TV rights are often sold country by country. A service may be authorized to distribute certain channels in one country and not in another. When you live abroad, the question is therefore whether your service is authorized to offer you that content where you live. Some broadcasters and operators offer international packages for expatriates; others do not. We cannot advise on a specific service, and we do not give advice on getting around territorial restrictions. For the general picture, see is IPTV legal? and how to recognise a reliable service.

How Klyvo Play recognises the country of a channel

Providers rarely store the country in a clean field, so Klyvo Play reads the names: a tag at the start of a bouquet such as “FR|” or “UK:”, a flag, or the name of the country written in one of several languages. A bouquet that matches no country is filed under Other. Nothing is deduced from your location — only from what your playlist contains. That matters for expats: your home country's channels are recognised wherever you are.

Choose up to 3 countries

Right after you connect your source, the app asks Which countries do you watch? You can pick up to three. The screen shows:

  • Suggested for you: countries proposed from your region and from what your subscription actually contains.
  • Search for a country…: accents and case are ignored, and country names in other languages work too.
  • All countries: every country found in your subscription, the busiest first, or from A to Z.

A typical expat set-up is your home country, the country you live in, and perhaps a third language the family speaks. You can change the selection at any time from the menu, under Country. More detail in organize IPTV channels by country and category.

“My countries”: one catalogue, several countries

With two or three countries chosen, the Live, Movies and Series tabs open on My countries: their catalogues blended together, with each country also available on its own in the selector. The Home screen draws its rows from each of your countries, so your home-country series sits next to the local news.

Nothing outside your choice disappears. In Live, Choose a country takes you to any other country your server offers, and the app remembers the last one you browsed. Within a country, channels are grouped by theme — General, News, Sports, Movies, Kids and so on — whatever your provider called its bouquets, and Provider bouquets always shows the original layout.

Use the app in your language

Klyvo Play is available in English, French, Spanish and Arabic, set in Settings → Language. The language also drives the automatic choice of audio and subtitles in films and series: if a film has a track in your language, it plays in your language; if not, subtitles in your language are turned on when the film carries them. In a bilingual family, each person can switch tracks in one step — see IPTV subtitles and audio track.

When a country's channels exist in several languages, Live also offers a language filter (All languages by default) to narrow the list.

One profile per person

Expat households are often multilingual. With family profiles, each person keeps their own My list, “Continue watching” and recommendations. One parent's home-country series does not clutter the children's local cartoons. A Kids profile filters adult content and can be locked with a parental PIN. See multiple profiles.

TV guide and time zones

Living in another time zone raises an obvious question: are programme times right? The TV guide comes from your provider, and can be completed with an XMLTV link added to the playlist. When times are shifted by one or several hours, the cause is usually in the provider's guide data rather than in the player. Check that the device's own time zone is correct, then report the shift to your provider. See IPTV guide wrong time.

Catch-up is particularly useful across time zones: when your provider supports timeshift on a channel, you can replay a programme that aired while you were asleep — see IPTV catch-up and replay.

Two services, one app: My playlists

Some expat families use two authorized services: one for the home country and one for the country they live in. Klyvo Play keeps several playlists on the same device, in My playlists. Each one keeps its own Xtream login or M3U link, credentials are stored encrypted, and the newest playlist plays at launch; you switch to another in a few steps. The playlist is also updated automatically each time the app starts, so new channels your service adds appear on their own.

Search works across live channels, films and series of the playlist you are using, from the second letter you type. For a channel you watch rarely, typing a few letters is faster than browsing a whole country.

Moving, travelling, changing devices

Expat life often means moving. Because the playlist is attached to the app's device codes, your provider or you can attach it again to a new device on the customer portal, without retyping anything — see move your playlist to a new device. If you travel between countries, remember that what you may watch depends on your service's rights in the country where you are; our guide to watching your playlist while travelling covers the practical side.

Which device to use abroad

Klyvo Play runs on iPhone, iPad and Apple TV (App Store), Android phones and tablets (Google Play), Fire TV (Amazon Appstore) and Windows 10/11 PCs. If your local TV is a Samsung or LG smart TV, there is no Klyvo Play app for its own system: plug in a Fire TV Stick or an Apple TV. Your provider or reseller can attach the playlist to the app's device codes on the customer portal, so nothing needs to be typed on the TV — useful when a relative back home helps you set things up. FAQ

Does Klyvo Play give access to channels from my country? No. Klyvo Play is a player: it organises the channels of the service you connect. The channels come from that service.

Can I choose more than three countries? No — three at most, so the mix stays useful. Every other country of your server stays one step away with Choose a country.

Why is a channel filed under the wrong country? Its name, or its bouquet's name, carries no clear country tag. The app only reads what your source writes.

Does the app use my location to choose channels? No. Countries are read from your playlist. Your region is only used to suggest countries on the selection screen.

Can I use a VPN to watch my country's channels? We do not give advice on getting around restrictions. Use a service that is authorized to offer you its content where you live.

Conclusion: your home country, first on screen

IPTV for expats works best with a service authorized where you live and a player that organises it around you.
